The problem

Come late summer, wasps, hornets and mice all start hunting for an easy meal, and your hives are top of the menu. A weak colony can be robbed out in days. There's nothing worse than losing bees you've spent all year building up.

The solution

The Hive Shield Entrance is a simple guard you make yourself from a short length of electrical trunking. To an invader it looks like a way in, but it leads nowhere. Your bees handle the rest.

Why beekeepers love this solution

###

  • Around £1 a hive. One 2m length of 38x16mm trunking costs about £5 and makes up to five shields.
  • Confuses and defends. Built-in tunnels force wasps and hornets off to one side, and the narrow 8mm holes are easy for your bees to guard.
  • Stops mice too. The slim entrance keeps mice out over winter, so that’s one less job come autumn.
  • Bee approved. Most colonies accept it within 24 hours, and it doesn’t knock the pollen off their legs.
  • Fits most hives. Works with loads of common hive types, poly or timber.

Designed by beekeepers, for beekeepers

We didn't come up with this on our own. It was tested and refined by working beekeepers from our community of over 360,000 followers. It's the same no-nonsense kit we run on our own hives.
